He was visiting his wife in Mexico and had been there for about 1 week. On March 14th a drunk driver hit his vehicle causing it to go out of control and fall into a ditch. My brother was not wearing a saftey belt so I can imagine him bouncing around all over his truck. He was taken to a local hospital where they decided to transfer him to a different hospital because of their lack of equipment. My brother was in their ICU unit for a week when the family decided to bring him closer to home. Well at least half way. We transfered him to El Paso where he remained another week in the ICU unit for another week. We were told that my brother has a bruise in his brain and that they would not be able to tell us of any damage until my brother wakes up. They also said that since my brother’s organs were working fine that they would have to discharge him and let us take him home. The social worker found a nursing in Lubbuck Tx that would take him in a take care of him. He was there for 2 weeks and it was horrible. They do not follow a schedule or even pay attention to the patients. My mom and brother in law stayed there day and night taking care of my brother for fear of negligence. Finally I was able to get him transferred to a facility in Garland Tx which is in our home town and the care there has been wonderful. We are still there daily to support my brother but at least at night my mother gets to go home and sleep. My brother was diagnosed with having a Glasgow Coma 6-7 and the outcome that the doctors have given us is not good. It has been about 2 days that my brother appears to be trying to open his eyes. I don’t know what to expect or what signs to look out for when somebody is coming out of a coma. I don’t want to ask the doctors because many times they just shoot down any hope that you have. My family and I have always been really close so that really helps the moral. Please keep my brother in your prayers. Thank you. Comments
