Chronic Pain’s Pain of Acceptance

by: Steve on Fri, Nov 16 2007

I have had chronic pain for about 12 years it has been progressive getting worse as the years pass. It is caused by Peripheal Neuropathy specifically CMT2 disease. It is a disease that causes numbeness pain and muscle deterioration. It has no cure and again progressive.

I have tried all the anti-drugs both depressant and convulsant as well as a host of others. My main drug that has kept me able to survive without putting a bullet through my brain is the opiates. I started low and have increased over time as my body became use to the levels. I am now using Oxycontin 30mg 2 X’s per day and Percocet 10/325 8 per day. I really need more but I force myself to deal with certain levels of pain daily just so I use the least amount possible. I am never without pain and my muscles have slowly withered. i use to be very athletic and may be why I kept muscle size and tone for so long. I still push myself daily working full time but it is hard.

I am up and down for abou 10 hours with about 2 hours of sleep at a time because of pain and muscle cramping just to get about 6 or 7 hours sleep. Then i get to work usually butning 1 to 3 hours of vacation or sick time to make it. Fortunately I work for A great company that helps me out (so far) this is my days on the weekends I get to the store and sit at home watching TV web surfing or playing one of my 16 guitars that I use to play semi pro with but cannot function at the level needed to play in a band anymore. I try and find things I can do that occupy my free time but it’s limited.

BUT you know what? There are a lot of people much worse off they I am so I don’t complain (too much) and just move forward the best I can.

  • 18 years of chronic pain, almost ended - by Dan (bodman) - (Mon, Nov 05 2007)
My pain started after a head injury in 1990. It began as if a cloud had engulfed me. Aside from the injury site it was quite benign in the beginning. As time went by the pain went everywhere, constantly changing so that when I saw the doctors I was always reporting on out of date symptoms. [more..]
