I am not a drug seeker!!!!!!

by: Melissa on Tue, Oct 02 2007

I have had chronic knee pain starting back as 4 years ago. I played a lot of sports when i was younger and just figured i was developing some pain from the wear and tear from those. Well, I went to a new pcp and this was around 4 yrs ago and thought i would let him know about this pain that i had been feeling mostly only in one knee then as the days, weeks and years went on i found that my other knee started into having painful episodes, I told my pcp and he blew it off and told me i was too young to have too many problems and that he did feel some crepitis in my knees, he placed me over the mths on many different NSAIDS that was nothing more than taking motrin or tylenol. Then, again i go to him and tell him i am having increased pain, he said “Well, if YOU want me too i can referr you to an orthopedist, well come to find out my less then concerned pcp had never performed not one dx test to see what was going on.,So he was forced to do an MRI prior to sending me to the ortho,it showed small effussions in both knees, then never again did i hear anything about the referral, I told my pcp I would like to get some steroid injections in my knees if i could to stop some of my pain, and guess what…..Never hear a word. Then by this point the last 6mths my pain has gotten 10fold of what it was so i said can you not prescribe me some low dose pain meds just for prn pain, until we figure out what is going on, NO he doesn’t give out pain meds,,,,well, fine could you find me something or someon, i was referred to the pain clinic where there were pulling and pushing tests and talks of PT, a knee scope, etc, and again i am saying i will do what you want me to but what about my pain, because at this point has gotten to very negatively affecting my life and life w/my family, i have fallen into depression because of always having pain. At the pain clinic i told them i would do whatever I had to but if PT was a part of it then pain meds would have to be an issue, I was given Tylenol 3 the PT made my osteoarthrits worse and I called back to see if there were meds a bit stronger that i could prescribbed @ that point my pcp and my pain clinic md basically told me and labled me as a drug seeker and the pain clinic dropped me. I am more depressed, i am already on antidepressents (which i feel stim from my chronic pain) My mds decide i am a drug seeker, when i have never been on narcotics previously. That is my frustration. How is it that i have been saying for years now i am in pain and no seems to hear and those that do say i am a drug seeker!!!!!!!!!!
