31 Year Old Going Cripple

by: Lisa from NY on Fri, Mar 28 2008

Since I was a child, I knew that I was different. I used to fall a lot, I couldn’t run as fast as my classmates, I had no sense of balance and I hated the annual physical fitness exams at school. Living with this disease has always been embarrising to me. Aside from always falling down in public, I can’t wear certain shoes, and hate to show my legs or feet.

I have scars on my knees, curled toes, calluses, stork legs and unbelievable amounts of shooting pain from my feet to my knees. I’ve also had to have surgery on my wrist to remove a bone that had died due to lack of circulation.

My biggest fears are attempting to have some type of corrective surgery that leaves me in worse condition, passing it on to children I may have in the future, and of course being crippled for the rest of my life. These conditions have been worsening within the past year or so. I’ve already been told that I’m going crippled and I have to have surgery on my right foot.

I wish that there was some type of vaccine you can take to prevent from passing it to your unborn children, more research, and more technology to determine and cure CMT
