Sophia–Colpocephaly

by: Shannon on Mon, Aug 06 2007

Sara, thank you for sharing Abby’s story. My daughter Sophia’s is similar. Pregnancy and birth were normal, but I began noticing delays around nine months when she was not sitting up by herself. My pedatrician had the same response–she’ll catch up; each child is different. But as Sophia is my third child, I wasn’t convinced.

We reached out to our local Early Intervention agency and started her with speech and physical therapy Meanwhile, our doctor did get us connected with a peds neurologist who ordered an MRI Colpocephaly was the diagnosis. Sophia seems cognitively fine. She does not have the small head size but does have seizures She is making great gains in 6 months–crawling, standing on her own and babbling.

Unforunately, finding information on this disorder has been difficult. We are going for genetic counseling to maybe gain more insight. I, too, would love to hear from others and their experience with colpocephaly.
