To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download My bell’s palsy story, part I I woke up Monday with Bell’s Palsy. I didn’t notice all at once. Slowly I put pieces of my morning together… putting on lipstick was strange, eating my oatmeal was a little weird, then standing in my work parking lot talking to a friend I noticed that I wasn’t able to squint my right eye against the sunshine. I could wink with the left but not with the right. Then I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror and tried to move any part of the right side of my face, but couldn’t. I was really scared and didn’t know what was going on… could it be a stroke? I called the doctor and went in right away, where they diagnosed me with Bell’s Palsy. I’m in an area with a high concentration of Lyme disease, so they started me on medication for Lyme disease and an anti-viral and an anti-inflammatory medication. I checked back on Wednesday with the doctor - and nothing more was wrong, but this evening (Thursday) I lost feeling/taste on the right side of my tongue - which is extra unfortunate because a few years ago I lost feeling/taste on the left side of my tongue from a wisdom tooth removal injury. Slowly the nerves for the left tip of my tongue regenerated, but today that is the only part I can feel. I thought maybe because I came in right away we’d be able to stop things from getting worse… but so far, no such luck. I’ll call the doctor back in the morning to see if we should do anything about the change tonight. Then I’ve got another appointment on Monday for the results of the Lyme disease test. ::sigh:: Comments
