19 years old with Bells Palsy
by: SCL
on Thu, Aug 30 2007
Two years ago when I was 19 I started feeling numb in my face and around my ear. I couldn’t feel anything, I couldn’t taste anything and this lasted a day until I couldn’t move the left half of my face. It was then that I worried, due to the fact that I thought I had just pinched a nerve again, and I made my way to see my doctor. She told me stress, emotional stress, cold, various diseases and other unknown factors may have caused my condition which we found out was Bells Palsy I stayed at home, I didn’t go out, I didn’t call anyone, I was ashamed of myself. I couldn’t even smiled right. I went out for the first time since I had gotten Bells Palsy 3 months after being diagnosed. I ran into friends who were actually very understanding, considering my ex husband and his girlfriend were giving me grief. I couldn’t take all of the emotional abuse and as a result came to have bells pulsy, I was dealing with the divorce going through and the fact that we split up because he didn’t want kids with me. When I discovered that he was the father of her baby it was just to much and in the next few weeks I had been diagnosed with Bells Pulsy. My advice to anyone that has stress related bells pulsey is to just ignore what stresses you out, remove yourself from the stress factor and take care of yourself. I myself am in the process of quiting a job that I love, a job that I get to do a variety of things that I love, because of a few of my co-workers that send me home crying everynight. I am removing myself from the stress of spiteful female co-workers and trying to find something else to do. Don’t let other people push you to the point where a case of stress related palsy starts to come back.

- My sister - by Tim - (Thu, Aug 30 2007)
A few days ago my sister was diagnoised with Bell’s. The odd thing is that my cousin also had it about a year ago. When he first told me about the symptoms he made it sound as if it was only a temporary thing, so like a jerk I teased my sister about her palsy.

- Bells’ palsy at 14 - by Larissa - (Thu, Aug 23 2007)
I was 14 years old when I woke up one morning with half a face paralyzed. After seeing the doctor etc, it’s confirmed to be bells’ palsy. I was often complimented that i have a pretty smile etc and being unable to smile or blink is really shocking and depressing for me. I remember in the first two weeks, I wake up every morning crying as my life ahead seems a blank for me.

- My daughter is 4 and has Bell’s Palsy - by Tammi - (Wed, Aug 22 2007)
My daughter is only 4 and has Bell’s palsy. We woke up one morning 4 1/2 weeks ago and the left side of her face was drooping. At first it looked like her face was really swollen. We brought her into the doctor immediately. I work at a clinic/hospital and they advised me to just wait until clinic hours and bring her in.

- My “BP” started on 8/28/1999 - by Dee - (Tue, Aug 14 2007)
I was diagnosed on August 28th 1999
I was told that there were no treatments and it would go away within 4 to 6 weeks. I was o.k. with that. Don’t get me wrong it was HELL but if it was only temporary I could handle this! I consider myself to be a fairly strong person. I was told that one out of every 600 people get this nightmare, and 90% of those heal completely.

Well, it’s been almost 6 months and I have not recovered from Bell’s Palsy. I have been keeping a daily journal since it happened in February, 2007. I woke up with an ear infection and went to the ER. They diagnosed me as having cellulitis and gave me medication. Three days later I woke up with Bell’s Palsy.

- Other links to Bell’s Palsy? - by Mrs. Robinson - (Wed, Aug 01 2007)
I came down with Bell’s Palsy last saturday. I had a sore throat for a couple days only on the left side, and then the left side began to get paralyzed. I went to the Emergency room to rule out a stroke and they said I had Bell’s Palsy.
I am 41 years old, 13 weeks pregnant, and my thyroid was severely underactive at the time of onset.
