To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Other links to Bell’s Palsy? I came down with Bell’s Palsy last saturday. I had a sore throat for a couple days only on the left side, and then the left side began to get paralyzed. I went to the Emergency room to rule out a stroke and they said I had Bell’s Palsy. I am 41 years old, 13 weeks pregnant, and my thyroid was severely underactive at the time of onset. (I am hypothyroid, and my docotr had not adjusted my thyroid medication appropriately during the first trimester.) I was prescribed prednisone, and an anti viral since they feel it is related to the herpes virus. (Although I have never had cold sores or fever blisters… but did have chicken pox as a kid). I did a lot of research, and saw that it is not good to try and work those facial muscles while in this state because you can cause permanet nerve damage by trying to make your face do things it is not capable of doing. I have a neighbor who went untreated with medications when she was pregnant and 2 years later she STILL has reoccurrence [recurrence] when she gets stressed. If you get treatment with the initial onset, it seems that treatment of the condition is much more likely to occur sooner as you can stop the progression. I was wondering how many other people also had a sore throat on the side? As my sore throat has come back on that side, and my face is still paralyzed. Comments
