To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Mat is now 2 I always compared Mat to my daughter who is now 6 and finally came to realize that each individual is different. Matthew has been going to speech therapy for a few months now. At 18 months he had not said one word that was understood by anyone and has yet to call me Mommy. I have been reading a lot about autistic children and found that he has many autistic characteristics. The speech therapists are saying he has a speech delay, but as a mother I feel there is something more than that. He does not communicate with us. He screams and cries for things and does not attempt to ask. He does not point to things he want. He still walks on his tipie-toes and is constantly rubbing my lips or his with his fingers. He recognizes and says the letters of the alphabet and can open and shut the doors in the house since he’s been walking. I brought it up to the pediatrician and she referred me to a neurologist for further evaluation,we have an appointment next week. I feel if there’s anything I can do now to make it better I will.
